Meeting Minutes: January 12, 2011

Present: S. Blosser, M. Elledge, B. Guenther, S. Leahy, D. Margolis, V. Martz, G. Pierce, A. Puzzuoli, T. Smeltekop, S. Swierenga;

1. Blosser called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
2. Blosser read a letter of communication from George Kerscher, Secretary General of the DAISY Consortium regarding the effort to work with publishers to provide accessible textbooks.
3. The ATC members discussed options to influence and/or encourage publishers to provide accessible formats, including legislative action or pressure from a consortium of universities and colleges nationwide. Continued meeting by email and G. Kerscher announced NIMAC and DAISY will adopt the EPUB 3 as a new standard (e-book standard). The ATC is waiting until 2/14/11 when the standard will be announced and we do not know if there will be tools to play with and try out the EPUB 3 right away.
4. APP&R request needs to be prepared. S. Blosser will bring a sample to the next meeting.
5. The meeting was adjourned (Elledge, Pierce) at 4:00 p.m.
